Enter the Black & Decker DR260B. The drill for the occasional drill user.
I personally bought this drill 2 years ago, and I use it a ton and it’s still going strong to this day!
In the past 2 years, I’ve built furniture, drilled out rivets, and used it with some sanding drums. No matter what task I threw at the DR260B, it’s completed it successfully.
For $25, you get a fully-functioning corded drill that can complete a ton of around-the-home projects, which is not a bad deal.

Before I get into too many details, I’ve got to address all of the bad reviews this drill gets. There are a number of bad reviews for this product, and people who do not like it.
However, it’s very important to note that this is a $25 drill, and therefore is not going to perform like a $100 drill.
For that reason, it’s corded so you don’t have an expensive battery and charger, and it also feels cheap…because it is a very inexpensive drill!
As I mentioned at the top of the article, I do own this drill and it has been reliable for my around-the-home projects and tinkering for the past 2 years.
Because of it’s cheap plastic feel, I used to question whether or not it would be durable, but time has taught me that it is very durable indeed!
So yes, the chuck doesn’t do an incredible job and you must use an extension cord to run this drill. The Dr260B is not perfect by any means, but it’s a great first drill and a good gift for someone who needs a basic corded drill.
I’d also suggest buying it as a second drill or a drill for your kids to learn on, and that’s why I give it 4 stars.
Ease Of Use and Feel
As I and many other reviewers have noted, the DR260B feels cheap. There’s no way around it. From the casing plastic to the chuck and especially the forward/reverse switch, it’s a cheap drill.
It does have a comfort grip, which is a necessity in my book, but when you tilt the drill down you can feel how off balance it is as it is difficult to hold up straight. So don’t throw it, drop it or carry it by it’s cord, and it’ll live a long life.
Other reviewers and I also noticed that this drill is not the most powerful thing out there. So, if you’re looking to quickly drill through very thick wood, any metal or concrete, it’s going to be slow with this drill. But, it’s a steal at $25!
If you’re expecting more than this out of your drill, you’re going to need to spend a little more money. However, I’m gonna be extra transparent here, and let you know this- if I had to make this purchase again as a first drill, I’d buy the Genesis GCD18BK.
The only leg up this 260B has on the Genesis is the speed – it is 3x as fast , but the Genesis is all around better.
Special Features
The DR260B is just about as basic as drills get. It does have a bit holder, which is a great place to store a small screwdriver bit, but the one that comes with the drill is a little too long for the holder and is easy to scratch yourself with while you’re working.
I’ve seen many screwdriver bits that are a little smaller and would fit in the holder, so you can always buy one if you desire to keep one on board.
Target User
The perfect user for this drill would be someone who is looking for a super-basic drill to do repetitive drilling, than this is your drill.
It excels in a workshop environment because it is stuck to the wall by it’s cord.
It’s also a great option if you already have a cordless drill and are just looking for a backup or secondary drill for your kids to learn on, etc.
There are a lot of tasks in woodworking that you could easily do standing at a workbench, and then you could use a corded drill like this instead of wearing down your cordless drill battery – just a thought.
This is the perfect drill for you if you get frustrated by cordless drills always running out of battery power, and you don’t move around a ton of spend a lot of time on ladders.
